Purdue engineering, technology programs rise in world rankings
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's engineering and technology programs rose nine places in the QS World University Rankings. Overall, Purdue's ranking remained 87th, unchanged from last year's survey, making it the state's only public university ranked in the top 100.
The rankings were made available online Tuesday (Sept. 21) by U.S.News & World (https://www.usnews.com/sections/education/worlds-best-universities/index.html), which partners with QS on the rankings.
In the 2010 QS rankings, Purdue's engineering and technology programs were ranked 28th, up from 37th in 2009.
"In today's increasingly global environment, our ranking among the world's best universities is good news for Purdue and for the state of Indiana," Purdue President France A. Córdova said. "The rankings for our engineering and technology programs speak to their quality and the respect that they have earned around the world."
In other QS world specialty rankings this year, Purdue's life sciences and biomedicine programs ranked 86th, compared to 79th in 2009, and natural sciences ranked 118th, compared to 94th in 2009.

The rankings were based on reviews or data related to peer institutions, employers, students, research performance, and international faculty and students. More than 15,000 academics and employers from around the world responded to the surveys related to these rankings.
Purdue's strong presence among various rankings was bolstered in August when U.S.News & World Report ranked Purdue 18th among the nation's public universities. This was a four-place increase from 22nd in 2009. Purdue also was ranked 56th among all universities, an improvement from 61st in 2009.
