Purdue announces internal search for next provost
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University has formed a search advisory committee to identify internal candidates to serve as the university's next executive vice president for academic affairs and provost.
The committee will be chaired by Richard Cosier, dean of the Krannert School of Management and Leeds Professor of Management, President France A. Córdova said. She said the goal is to have candidates identified by Feb. 1, with public presentations that same week. Córdova intends to propose a finalist to the Purdue Board of Trustees at its regular meeting on Feb. 11.
"We have a wealth of talent at Purdue. It is critical that the new provost be someone the faculty and administration respect, someone who can build consensus and move the strategic plan forward." Córdova said. "Dean Cosier and the committee will be looking for candidates who are focused on recruiting and retaining talented faculty and boosting student achievement."
The provost works closely with the president in providing overall leadership for the university. The provost directs the university's academic programs and oversees the libraries, the information technology enterprise, student services and international programs. Recruitment, hiring and review of deans and department heads also are among the provost's responsibilities.
