Purdue student groups raise more than $9,700 for Haiti
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University student organizations have raised more than $9,700 for Haiti relief through a host of campus-wide events over the past few weeks.
Some student groups are continuing their collection efforts. The Consumer and Family Science Student Council will donate all proceeds from ticket sales for the Consumer and Family Science Formal to relief efforts in Haiti. The formal will be from 8-11 p.m. March 6 in the Purdue Memorial Union.
Another group, Students for Justice in Palestine, is sponsoring a talent show to benefit relief efforts. The event, titled United for Haiti, will be at 7 p.m. March 10 in Fowler Hall.
Faculty, students or staff also can donate to The Purdue Haiti Relief Fund, said Pablo Malavenda, associate dean of student activities.
Those interested in giving can make donations in person at the Purdue Student Government Office in Stewart Center, Room G6. They also can mail checks, money orders or cash to 128 Memorial Mall, Box 640, Stewart Center, Purdue University, West Lafayette IN 47907. Checks should be made payable to "Purdue Haiti Relief Fund." Donations to this fund are not tax-deductible. Those wishing to make tax-deductible donations must make such contributions directly to the Red Cross.
