Appointments, honors and activities
• Appointments and promotions:
- Howard Zelaznik, professor of health and kinesiology, has been named the associate dean for research and graduate programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. The position was effective on Jan. 3. Zelaznik has served as an associate dean for research in the College of Liberal Arts. He has previously been chair of the Institutional Review Board and the University Senate, and is now a Provost Fellow.
• Faculty and staff honors:
- Larry DeBoer, professor of agricultural economics, received the Distinguished Service Award for 2010 from the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents for his work on the changing impacts of taxation issues on Indiana's public schools. The award was presented during the organization's annual meeting in December. DeBoer is known for his work in government budget and taxing options, property tax assessment issues, local government revenue options and the fiscal impact of economic development. He has worked with the Indiana Legislative Services Agency on tax and finance issues since 1988, and helps maintain a model of property tax used by the Indiana General Assembly to analyze the impact of assessment and tax policy changes.
