• Appointments and promotions
— Mohan Dutta, professor of communication, has bee named the associate dean for research and graduate education in the College of Liberal Arts. He will begin his new role on Aug. 16.
• Faculty and staff honors:
— Mitch Warren, senior associate director of admissions, will serve as chief delegate for the Indiana Association for College Admission Counseling at the National Association for College Admission Counseling Assembly in September. Chief delegates train delegates, ensure that assembly delegates fulfill their responsibilities, and facilitate regular and ongoing communication with delegates. Assembly responsibilities include electing board officers and directors, amending the association's Statement of Principles of Good Practice, and making recommendations to the board of directors on association-related matters, including the annual budget and membership dues.
— Robert Kubat, Purdue University registrar, became first vice president of the Indiana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers in April. Kubat will become the association's president in fall 2012. The association, made up of 66 Indiana colleges and universities, contributes to the advancement of higher education and the offices of admissions, registration and records.
• Notables:
— Purdue University has been selected for G.I. Job's 2011 list of Military Friendly Schools. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the nation that are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students. Criteria for making the list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditations. G.I. Jobs is a monthly magazine that assists veterans in seeking civilian employment and education.
