Appointments, honors and activities
• Appointments and promotions:
- Bert Useem, professor of sociology, has been named the head of the Department of Sociology in the College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on criminal justice, social movements, prison riots and political sociology. The appointment is effective June 1.
- Song No, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures, has been named the associate dean for undergraduate education and international programs in the College of Liberal Arts. His primary fields of research are Latin American literature and Spanish literature. The appointment is effective June 1.
• Faculty and staff honors:
- R. Douglas Hurt, professor and head of the Department of History, has been selected for the Agricultural History Society's Society of Fellows. Hurt will be recognized for this honor at the annual awards banquet in June at Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla. The Agricultural Historical Society is an affiliate of the American Historical Association.
