WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Army Lt. Gen. Patrick J. O'Reilly, director of the Missile Defense Agency, will deliver the William E. Boeing Distinguished Lecture at Purdue University on Feb. 28.

O'Reilly will speak on Creating Transformational Military Technology from 4-5:15 p.m. in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

O'Reilly oversees MDA's worldwide mission to develop a capability to defend deployed forces, the United States homeland and allies against ballistic missile attacks.

"Purdue is honored to have Lt. Gen. O'Reilly come to campus to engage our faculty and students and learn about Purdue's cutting-edge research," said Tom Shih, head of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, which has an ongoing research project with MDA through the Center for Integrated Systems in Aerospace.

Previously O'Reilly served in both command and staff officer positions in a variety of operational units, including with the 1st Cavalry Division, the 3rd Support Command, Germany, and as an assistant professor of physics at the U.S. Military Academy.

O'Reilly is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and has master's degrees in physics, national security and strategic studies, and business. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and Staff College, the U.S. Naval College of Command and Staff, and the U.S. Army War College.

The William E. Boeing Distinguished Lecture was established in 1999 in honor of its founder and The Boeing Co.'s support of Purdue. The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics has benefited from the university's long relationship with Boeing with the creation of the Boeing Wind Tunnel, Ludwig Tube and the McDonnell Douglas Composites Materials Laboratory.
