Latino Cultural Center to celebrate 'Dia de la Familia'
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Latino Cultural Center on Saturday (April 9) will celebrate its eighth anniversary at its "Día de la Familia" (Day of the Family).
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Latino Cultural Center, 600 Russell St.
Free food, including Lechón, a pork dish that is often served during special occasions or holidays, will be available along with beverages. There will be several activities for children such as face painting, cookie decorating, games and piñata breaking.
Purdue's Salsa Club and Latin Ballroom and Dance team will be performing. Tours of the center also will be available.
Decorated bandanas that were made as part of a sexual assault awareness program also will be on display. The Bandana Project is part of a nationwide project created by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Ezperanza Project and co-sponsored by Multicultural Efforts to End Sexual Assault and the LCC.
The Latino Cultural Center was established in 2003 as Purdue's first center for Hispanic and Latino culture. The center is a place where people of similar cultures and backgrounds can come together to share events in the university community. The center is open to all interested in learning more about the Latino cultures.
