March 9, 2011

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Award-winning director and Purdue University alumnus Bob Bowdon will speak on campus March 23 about education reform.

Purdue University College Republicans will host the forum and screen "The Cartel," Bowdon's award-winning documentary, at 6 p.m. in Physics Building, Room 112. Admission is free and open to the public. The event will help raise awareness of education reform in America, and audience members will get the opportunity to interact with Bowden and other experts.

"The main objective is to engage in thoughtful discussion about what some see as a failing education system in America," said Michael Cunningham, president of the Purdue University College Republicans.

Other speakers include Bruno Behrend, director of the Heartland Center for School Choice; a representative of the School Choice Indiana group, an advocate of charter schools and better public education; and a representative from the Indiana State Teachers Association.

Bowdon is traveling the country to show his film and answer questions on education reform. He has worked in New Jersey as a television producer, reporter, news anchor and commentator. Recently, Bowdon has been writing an education policy blog for the Huffington Post.
