60 schools to compete in Spell Bowl state finals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Sixty schools from throughout Indiana will compete at Purdue University on Saturday (Nov. 13) in the 26th annual Indiana Academic Spell Bowl state finals.

The competition, which will be in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse, is sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Thirty senior division teams of high school students will compete at 11 a.m. Thirty junior division teams of students in grades six through eight will compete at 3 p.m.

Teams, composed of eight to 10 students, will send one representative on stage for each word. The students must write the word in 15 seconds, after which scores are updated on a screen.

Winners will be named in four classes based on school enrollment numbers.

A total of 182 senior division teams and 192 junior division teams competed at local contests in October for the finalist spots.
