Exhibit to feature modern art from Latin America

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Modern art from Latin America will be celebrated with a one-week exhibit and series of events at Purdue University.

"Modern Art From Latin America: A Selection from the Purdue Galleries Permanent Collection" will run Sept 20-24 in the Rueff Gallery in Pao Hall. The gallery, which is free and open to the public, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Works by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, and other Latin American modernists will be featured, said Catherine Dossin, assistant professor of art history and event organizer.

Other related events include:

* Sept. 19. 1:30-4:30 p.m. Rueff Gallery, Pao Hall. Día de la Familia. Exhibit preview and children's activities. A presentation in Spanish will be given at 3 p.m.

* Sept. 20. 7:30 p.m. Rawls Hall, Room 1011. Showing of the movie "Frida" Discussion will follow.

* Sept. 24. 4-6 p.m. Rueff Gallery, Pao Hall. Latin American Arts Gala. A celebration of Latin American arts and culture with music, dance and food.

The event is sponsored by the art history program, which is part of the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts.
