Students to learn volunteer options at Community Service Fair

August 26, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University students can learn about dozens of volunteer opportunities when local not-for-profit agencies come to campus on Thursday (Sept. 2) for the annual Community Service Fair.

The agencies will set up displays around Academy Park, just north of the Purdue Memorial Union, from 1-4 p.m. Representatives of the agencies will explain the wide variety of opportunities available and attempt to match students with activities specific to their interests or major.

Harry Brown, director of the Boiler Volunteer Network, said he hopes to have up to 25 community agencies involved in the fair.

"Community service is a great way for students to enhance their Purdue experience and is an important resume builder," Brown said.

During the last academic year more than 6,600 students gave more than 20,000 hours of service through the Boiler Volunteer Network.
