First glimpse of 2010 marching band comes Saturday (Aug. 21)

August 18, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The public's first opportunity to see the 2010 Purdue's "All-American" Marching Band, which will represent the university at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, comes at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 21) at Hull Field on Third Street across from Shreve Hall.

Admission is free to the hour-long display of music and marching.

The announcement of the official membership of the 2010 band traditionally comes on Friday of Band Camp week (Aug. 20) and  newly-selected band members spend the remaining two days of camp learning the basics of the stadium pre-game show including such traditions as the "Block P."

More than 420 students attended band camp, hoping to earn spots in the 340-member band led by Jay S. Gephart. Long days were filled with marching fundamental rehearsals and music rehearsals and spontaneous social events at day's end. Visits from campus celebrities are also on the schedule. President France A. Córdova, football coach Danny Hope and volleyball coach Dave Shondell are among those who make time to personally greet the band.
