WBAA to host daylong pledge drive for the first time

March 30, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — WBAA is reducing its usual weeklong spring pledge drive to a one-day event this year from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 8.

The radio station will have about 50 volunteers throughout the day and additional phone lines to handle calls from donors.

While the on-air time for the pledge drive is being reduced, the fundraising goal remains $150,000 from around 1,200 members. WBAA already has received $71,172 from 580 new and renewing members, according to Development Director Sally Lutes.

The station is encouraging listeners to stop by the station to make a donation in person during the pledge drive as well as witness the event. WBAA is located at 712 Third Street in West Lafayette.

"We've had a lot of positive feedback from current members who are glad we're trying out this new idea of a one-day pledge drive," Lutes said. "It's a risk, but if it works everyone wins."

The biggest challenge for WBAA is continuing to reach out to new members.

"Pledge drives are really all about getting new members to help fund a service they value," Lutes said. "We saw our new members increase last fall, and we hope to continue that trend."

Listeners can contribute any time before the pledge drive at https://www.WBAA.org or by calling 765-494-5920.
