Purdue No. 12 among U.S. public universities in 2027 global Times Higher Education rankings
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University climbed one spot to No. 12 among all U.S. public institutions in the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which noted gains in its research environment and research quality as well as continued strength in industry engagement.
This year, Purdue also rose two spots to No. 30 among all major universities in the U.S. — the only university in Indiana in the top 100 — based on the overall Times Higher Education rankings released Sept. 30. Purdue continued to score highly for research excellence and quality, which notes publications among the top 10% most cited. It also performed well in research influence, which weighs the importance of the papers that cite Purdue researchers’ work.
Purdue’s research enterprise has grown for years, with annual expenditures eclipsing $1 billion for the first time ever in fiscal year 2025.
Times Higher Education used 17 indicators, measuring a university’s performance across areas such as teaching reputation; student-staff ratio; patents; industry engagement; and research environment, influence and quality.
