Daniels to join conversation at Ford’s Theatre on lessons from 9/11

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — President Mitch Daniels will join Hillary Clinton and Norah O’Donnell of CBS News at Ford’s Theatre in Washington on Sept. 29 for a conversation that will mark 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America and reflect on the leadership and response that followed.

Daniels served as director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush during the Sept. 11 attacks and their aftermath. In that role, he was involved in the federal response, including emergency funding for recovery efforts in New York, assistance for 9/11 victims and support for the airline industry. He was also involved in the reorganization of federal agencies that led to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

The event, “25 Years After 9/11: Lessons in Leadership, Resilience and Finding Our Better Angels,” will explore the decisions made in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and the nation’s response in the years since. Panelists will discuss leadership in moments of crisis, the role of public service and the challenge of preserving the lessons of 9/11 for generations who did not experience it firsthand. The conversation will also address healing, remembrance and resilience in the years following the attacks.
