Purdue highlights year’s success in financial stability and capital project investments

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s main campus finished fiscal year 2025 with a strong financial result, with a positive operating margin of 4.7% that contributes to enabling major new constructions or renovations of facilities. While higher education in the U.S. is in general facing operating budget deficit and significant financial uncertainties, Purdue continues to be sturdy.

At the annual metrics report presented Friday (Aug. 8) to trustees by Purdue President Mung Chiang, Purdue is also highlighted as one of only two among the 18 Big Ten universities raising employee salaries at a rate higher than tuition. The positive gap between those two factors is the most of any Big Ten peer. And over the last 12 years, that difference has climbed to 35%.

Across major facilities projects that concluded or started in 2025, Purdue allocated $1.5 billion to capital projects, including $657 million for student success efforts and more than $660 million for its four strategic universitywide initiatives: Purdue University in Indianapolis ($187 million), the Mitch Daniels School of Business ($168 million), Purdue Computes ($101 million) and One Health ($205 million).
