Purdue community to celebrate legacy on 12th Day of Giving

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — On Wednesday (April 30), Boilermakers around the globe will come together to celebrate Purdue’s history, traditions and global reputation for excellence at scale during the university’s 12th Purdue Day of Giving.

The 24-hour online, social media-driven fundraising effort encompasses all of Purdue’s locations — Purdue’s main campus (West Lafayette, Indianapolis and online), Purdue Fort Wayne, Purdue Northwest and Purdue Global. Alumni, friends, faculty, staff, retirees, students, parents, fans and Greater Lafayette community members are encouraged to “give back to the Old Gold and Black” by making a gift.

Participation in hourly challenges allows donors to amplify their impact and help their favorite unit (campus, college, school, program or student organization) win bonus funds throughout the day. Each gift also helps units climb donation and participation leaderboards for additional funds.

Students will also join in on the celebrations during Purdue Day of Giving After Dark — a neon experience taking place on Memorial Mall. This glow-in-the-dark event will feature interactive games and attractions such as inflatable axe throwing, swings, seesaws, a giant Lite-Brite, cornhole and more. Free food from local favorites and free merchandise will also be available.

This year’s Purdue Day of Giving comes less than three months after the announcement of “Victories & Heroes: Your Campaign for Purdue” — a bold initiative to invest in the long-term future of the university. Every gift received on Wednesday will count toward this campaign.

Since its $7.5 million total in 2014, Purdue Day of Giving has seen consistent growth. Last year, a record-breaking 32,054 gifts brought in $76.5 million for the university — bringing Purdue Day of Giving’s cumulative total since its launch to $497 million.
