Reminder: Purdue winter weather procedures; West Lafayette campus expects normal operations on Wednesday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —

Purdue administrators and public safety officials are working with city and county personnel to actively monitor the winter storm expected for Wednesday and Thursday. While we currently expect the West Lafayette campus to be under normal operations for Wednesday (Feb. 2), we ask the campus to stay alert for updates. Should that status change due to conditions that make travel difficult or dangerous, the campus community will be updated as soon as possible Wednesday morning.

Faculty are urged to remind students of emergency communication and course adjustment plans. Students should be made aware of how and where to find information regarding courses and any changes to modality caused by weather.

If a weather emergency is declared and in-person classes are suspended, faculty should be prepared to communicate expectations to students regarding due dates and any alternative learning options.

If adverse weather conditions necessitate that a wind chill, snow or ice emergency be declared for the West Lafayette campus, special procedures pertaining to classes, operations, parking, pay and/or attendance will become effective. Carol Shelby, senior director of environmental health and public safety, describes procedures for adverse winter weather in this memo.

University officials continue to monitor area road conditions – and encourage employees to do the same – to be aware of any local travel restrictions that might be put in place. Those planning to travel on area roads should monitor their county travel status.

Any additional updates will be sent via email, social media and will be shared with area media.
