Volunteer Activity Ideas for Purdue Extension Master Gardeners while at Home

By John Orick and Rosie Lerner

All Purdue Extension Master Gardener (EMG) volunteers should be sure to get the approval of their EMG County Coordinator prior to engaging in an official EMG activity. EMG County Coordinators should also review educational materials and articles before sharing these resources publicly.

Here are some volunteer activity ideas while staying at home:

  • Continue to meet virtually with fellow EMGs to plan for future projects as much as possible.
  • Write a EMG association newsletter article.
  • Partner with their local coordinator to host a virtual home gardening question and answer sessions for the public.
  • Staff county EMG hotlines remotely by phone or email.
  • Prepare home horticulture related educational posts for County Extension/EMG Association social media.
  • Partner with their coordinator to host a home gardening webinar series.
  • Create an educational presentation on a home horticulture topic.
  • Grow plants for educational demo gardens from their home.
  • Try a citizen scientist volunteer project. More info HERE!
