HLA Welcomes Grandparents University

Grandparents and grandchildren create flower arrangements.

On July 17, 2025, Karen Mitchell, Karen Sullivan, and Vicki Stirm led a fun and engaging session as part of Grandparents University. They welcomed about 35 grandparents and their grandchildren, ages 7 to 14, for a special experience on campus.

As part of the Grandparents University program, families come to campus, select a “major,” attend classes together, and even “graduate” — all while enjoying quality time and making lasting memories.

During the session, they introduced the group to the HLA Department, sharing an overview of HLA concentrations and the wide range of career opportunities available in the field. The highlight of the morning was a hands-on activity where each grandparent and grandchild created their own bud vase floral arrangement to take home — a beautiful keepsake of their time together.

And of course, the squishies were a big hit with the kids, adding a fun and playful touch to an already joyful morning!
