Landing Frontier Technology: Interdisciplinary Research at the Property-Tech Nexus will focus on transformations in land, property, and platform technologies with an emphasis on “the frontier.” We use the term “frontier” to encompass three interconnected scholarly objectives:
- Analyze how digital technologies create frontiers in land and property markets by producing new forms of value, access, and ownership in previously “untapped territories.”
- Theorize the profound digital transformations reshaping the nature of property, both online and offline, including the growth of generative AI, blockchain-based fractional ownership, and predictive algorithmic systems.
- Support interdisciplinary collaboration across distinct areas of expertise by sharing insights among scholars in anthropology, economics, agricultural science, data ethics, and related fields studying the rapid evolution of digital property markets.
The Works-in-Progress Seminar and Lunch will take place on October 23, 10am-6pm in UNIV 321. The Public Panel and Q&A will be on October 26, 10-11:30 AM in PFEN 241.
The event is generously funded by Purdue’s Global Partnerships and Programs and the University of Cambridge’s Cambridge Humanities Research Grants. It builds on several prior workshops held between 2022 and 2026 with an existing group of collaborators working at the intersection of land, housing, and property.
