Watermelon research plots at Meigs in 2023

Members of the HLA’s Horticulture Crops Weed Science Lab recently published three peer-reviewed research articles.

Greenhouse evaluation of napropamide and pendimethalin for suppression of strawberry daughter plant rooting and runner management implications. Jeanine Arana, Stephen Meyers, Wenjing Guan, Bryan Young, and Nathan Boyd. Available ahead-of-print in Weed Technology. This research is one of former HLA PhD student Jeanine Arana’s dissertation chapters.

Herbicide-based weed management in plasticulture triploid watermelon row middles using pre-transplanting and layby application timings. Stephen Meyers, Josue Cerritos, Jeanine Arana, Emmanuel Cooper, Carlos Lopez-Manzano, and Celia Corado. Available ahead-of-print in Weed Technology. This research was the subject of Josue’s visiting scholar project.

Is replanting sweetpotato worth it after stem girdling or stand loss? Francis Kiemo, Stephen Meyers, Callie Morris, Mark Shankle, Jeffrey Main, and Lorin Harvey. Published in HortScience. This work was started by Dr. Meyers while at Mississippi State University and continued after his departure. It provides research-based guidance on the replanting thresholds in sweetpotato.
