LA 316 Students Explore Design and Play at Cason Family Park

Last week, the LA 316 class joined West Lafayette Parks and Recreation staff Greg and John, for a field trip to the recently completed Cason Family Park. Designed by MKSK, the project highlights the restoration of the historic Morris Schoolhouse, with natural-based amenities such as preserved forest walks, playgrounds and artistic features in the woods.

The Parks and Recreation staff shared stories behind the design process, and knowledge on operations, which directly related to the Junior students’ ongoing Parks and Open Space design studio. The playground design details, material selection, and project budgeting sparked vibrant discussions between the students and park staff.

In the end, with snow covered the student wrapped up the visit by enjoying the climbing net and sledding the hill. It’s never too old to have fun in a well-designed park!
