Katie Jenner
Secretary of Education, Indiana Government

Dr. Katie Jenner serves as Indiana’s first Secretary of Education, leading a unified, student-centered vision from K–12 through higher education. As a member of the Governor’s cabinet, she oversees eight agencies and boards that represent approximately 60% of the state budget. This includes leading the Indiana Department of Education and the Commission for Higher Education and chairing the State Board of Education.

Under her leadership, Indiana has seen rising literacy rates, improved chronic absenteeism, record high graduation rates, new future-focused diploma requirements, a redesigned through-year assessment model, a student-centered accountability system, and expanded transparency through the Indiana GPS Dashboard. Higher education wins include holding tuition flat, aligning degree programs with workforce needs, unlocking new federal aid for short-term training, and connecting institutional funding to student outcomes.

Dr. Jenner is a former teacher with leadership experience in K-12 and higher education. She lives in Madison with her husband and twin daughters.
