Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that our colleague Dr. Theresa Mayer, who has served at Purdue as executive vice president for research and partnerships from July 2019 to December 2022 and chief science officer since then, has accepted the role of Vice President for Research at Carnegie Mellon University beginning February 1.

Through Theresa’s leadership of our significant research enterprise, the university has seen record growth in external funding and has diversified its portfolio, including increases in investments by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense and industry partners. Her recent reorganization and relaunch of the university’s interdisciplinary institutes and centers furthered that effort, better aligning these leading research organizations with university priorities and federal and state funding opportunities.

Theresa also played a central role in Purdue’s Next Moves, where she led the development and launch of the Purdue Applied Research Institute to extend the university’s reach and impact in critical areas of national security and defense, international development and technology acceleration.
