Re:  2020 Helen B. Schleman Award

Dear faculty, staff, and friends of Purdue,

The 2020 class of Mortar Board at Purdue University is excited to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award. To continue and remember the legacy of Dean Helen B. Schleman, who served as Dean of Women from 1947 to 1968, the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award is presented to a deserving faculty member or administrator for their contributions to Purdue, especially in the promotion and advancement of women students and women’s issues.

The nomination form can be found on the Mortar Board BoilerLink page at: https://boilerlink.purdue.edu/submitter/form/start/367508.

Please submit a statement of achievements and a curriculum vitae for the person you are nominating. Additional letters of recommendation and materials from colleagues and current and former students are strongly encouraged.

The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Has contributed significantly to the promotion and advancement of women, both for students and women’s issues
  • Has served at least five years at Purdue as a faculty member or administrator
  • Has provided leadership and service within and beyond the University community
  • Lives by the principles of scholarship, leadership, and service

All nominations are due by Sunday, March 1st, 2020 at 11:59 PM.  Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The 2020 Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion recipient will be presented with a commemorative medallion and a monetary gift, as well as be invited to serve as the keynote speaker at the annual Mortar Board Initiation Breakfast in April.

Please feel free to pass this information on to other faculty members and administrators.  If you have any question or concerns, please contact me at jmerlino@purdue.edu.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and we look forward to awarding this honor to a deserving member of our community.

Sincerely,

Joseph Merlino
