Re:      Vice President for Information Technology

Based on his success and diligent effort over the past three months, we have asked Karl Browning to assume the full-time role as Purdue’s next Vice President for Information Technology.  I am pleased to announce that Karl has accepted the opportunity.  In this role, he will report to me with a dotted line report to the Provost.  Karl will head ITaP on the West Lafayette campus and provide leadership to campus distributed IT units while also serving as the CIO for the Purdue system.  Karl brings more than 40 years of business experience to this position.

He has spent his career helping companies transform their business operations, first as a systems engineer and then leading multi-disciplined teams that re-engineered business operations, implemented enabling technologies, and transformed core culture.

Over 20 years of Karl’s career was spent delivering for the customers of Electronic Data System and later Perot Systems, principally in the insurance industry.  Subsequently, he was Senior Vice President and CIO of Indianapolis-based Golden Rule Insurance Company.  Beginning in 2005, Karl served the state of Indiana in roles including CIO, Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, and as Director of the Hoosier Lottery.

Please join me in congratulating Karl on his new role as Vice President for Information Technology.
