Re:  Institutional Conflicts of Interest Policy

As a public institution, the University has a responsibility to ensure that the financial or business interests of the University and its officials do not influence or have the appearance of influencing the University’s research, teaching, outreach or business transactions. A new interim policy on Institutional Conflicts of Interest (III.B.6) establishes the requirements for disclosing and reviewing the University’s financial interests and those of the University’s officials to prevent institutional conflicts of interest. The interim policy will go into effect July 1, 2019.

My office is working in cooperation with the Office of Research and Partnerships to develop an online reporting tool for those who will be required to disclose financial interests. Once the tool is in place, the individuals identified in the policy as University Officials will receive a notification to provide the requested information. The policy will remain in interim status for six months while we evaluate its requirements and the reporting tool, after which time the interim status will be removed.

In the meantime, please review the interim policy on Institutional Conflicts of Interest (III.B.6) and direct any questions to my office at 765-494-5830 or to vpec@purdue.edu.
