Colleagues,

The Lyles School of Civil Engineering and the College of Engineering invite you to celebrate with us the legacy and significance of David Robert Lewis, 1894 BS Civil Engineering, Purdue University’s first black graduate.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a keynote titled, “The Path is the Same, but the Journey is Different” by former Purdue University trustee, Dr. Mamon Powers, Jr., BSCE ’70 and HDR ’14 in the Material Science and Electrical Engineering Building, Room B012.

The lecture is followed by a luncheon at 12:00 p.m. in the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, Kurz Atrium. The luncheon will also feature a historical perspective of African Americans in engineering at Purdue and the re-dedication of the National Society of Black Engineers Key.

An official invitation is attached for your convenience. Please RSVP for the luncheon prior to February 15 to the College of Engineering Events Office, engineeringevents@purdue.edu.
