Re:          Supervisor Springboard Training Series

Supervisor Springboard is a new training series developed in partnership between the Vice President for Human Resources and a Council for Manager Development (CMD) project team in response to the Quality of Work Environment Initiative survey results. Through employee feedback, it is evident that a more consistent and robust training and development program for supervisors is desired on the Purdue West Lafayette campus. Supervisor Springboard is designed to address that need by providing supervisors with the tools and skills needed to be successful in their roles at Purdue.

Supervisor Springboard is being piloted this spring, and volunteers are needed to participate in the pilot. Exempt employees with three years or less of experience in their supervisory roles on the West Lafayette campus are being invited to participate. Two sections will be offered, and participation is limited to the first 25 supervisors who register for each respective section. Training will run from Monday, March 21 through Thursday, May 5.

Topics will include:

  • Supervisor Roles & Responsibilities
  • Employment Laws & Policies
  • Managing Relationships with Former Peers
  • Building a Team
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Mistreatment, Harassment & Hostile Work Environments
  • Performance Management: Providing Feedback & Performance Evaluations
  • Progressive Discipline
  • The Manager’s Communication Toolbox
