Greetings Boilermakers!

The time approaches for the Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board to honor those who go above and beyond to make Purdue shine! Nominations/Applications of deserving people will be accepted until Thursday, February 25, 2016 by 11:45 PM for the following awards:

-          Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion

To continue and remember the legacy of Dean Helen B. Schleman, who served as dean of women from 1947 to 1968, the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award is presented to a deserving faculty member or administrator for her/his contributions to Purdue, especially in the promotion and advancement of women students and women’s issues.

A statement of achievements and a curriculum vitae will be sufficient for your nominee.  Additional information and materials are encouraged but are not required.

The selection criteria are as follows:

Has contributed significantly to the promotion and advancement of women for both students and women’s issues

Has served at least five years at Purdue as a faculty member or administrator

Has provided leadership and service within and beyond the University community

Lives by the principles of scholarshipleadership & service

The 2016 Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion recipient will be presented with a gold medallion and monetary gift, and will be invited to serve as the keynote at the annual Mortar Board Initiation Breakfast in April.

-          Challenge Scholarship

The Challenge Scholarship recognizes a sophomore leader who has demonstrated leadership in student organizations and who shows potential for greater leadership during his/her time at Purdue. The recipient will receive $500.

-          Rose Award

Mortar Board presents the Rose Awards to outstanding individuals in the Purdue University clerical or service staff.  We want to recognize our Purdue community's leadership and community involvement as well as support students and organizations on campus. The Rose Awards are presented to members of the clerical or service staff at Purdue who always go "above and beyond" the call of duty. Up to a dozen honorees receive a surprise tribute at their workplace.

-          Tip of the Cap Award

The Tip of the Cap is presented to students who do not hold a major leadership role in their student organization, but who are "unsung heroes" and rarely receive the recognition deserved. There are up to ten recipients each year. All receive a monetary gift and certificate.

-          Dean Betty Nelson Service Award

The Dean Betty Nelson Service Awards honor one Purdue student affiliated with a student organization and one student organization, both of which excel in community service in the Lafayette-West Lafayette area. Mortar Board seeks to recognize those who have been instrumental in the continuing success or initiation of service programs. The award consists of $500 to the student winner and $500 to a student organization.
