RE:            Doug Foster, Associate Vice President of ITAS and Deputy Chief Information Officer

Colleagues,

Yesterday afternoon, the University of South Carolina announced our colleague Doug Foster as their new University CIO. Doug has served Purdue and ITaP splendidly for the last seven years. He has been an energetic and knowledgeable colleague who cares deeply about Purdue and has used these skills to provide major improvements and cost-savings to our administrative functions. It is accurate to say that Purdue and our IT organization have both benefitted enormously from his expertise and experience.

In particular, Doug's work on business intelligence, data analytics, IT governance and portfolio management has improved the transparency, efficiency and effectiveness of Purdue's IT operation and better aligned the work of hundreds of employees working on thousands of projects with the University's mission. Doug also has been a strong mentor and contributed to leadership development that promises to serve Purdue and Purdue IT well for years to come.

Vicki Farnsworth, senior director of the Business Systems Competency Center, a key role in IT Application Services, has agreed to serve as interim executive director of ITAS until we begin a national search for Doug's replacement.

Quite naturally, outstanding people like Doug have new career opportunities, whether within ITaP, Purdue at large, or outside Purdue. We wish Doug the very best as his family and career shift to South Carolina and we look forward to offering our own opportunity to someone who will be a likewise talented and effective colleague.
