Re:       Clarification of process for requesting new space on the West Lafayette campus

In alignment with our ongoing work to maximize the efficiency of space utilization in facilities campus-wide, the Physical Facilities Asset Management unit is continuing to pursue enhancements to the space planning, management and analysis processes. To streamline the process of preparing space request materials, an electronic, fillable version of the Space Request Form is now available via the first button on the left side of the Physical Facilities website homepage at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/. This form should be used to request new space on the West Lafayette campus including but not limited to instructional, research and office space and be submitted to space inventory manager Kim Rechkemmer upon completion.

Each submitted request for space is carefully evaluated on the basis of a number of factors including the following:

  • University space standards
  • The identified amount and type of space
  • Programmatic need
  • Proactive efforts to repurpose and/or vacate existing space
  • The duration for which the space will be utilized

Space Management staff will directly contact requesters to share the outcomes of the evaluation process and associated potential space solutions.

If any questions arise as you assess your area’s evolving space needs and/or prepare space requests, please feel free to contact space inventory manager Kim Rechkemmer at kimr@purdue.edu or (765) 496-3438.

The process outlined above does not affect requests for space for events, which should be made through the UniTime system, or classroom scheduling, which is administered by the Registrar.
