Dear Colleagues,

This morning Associate Dean for Learning Teresa Taber Doughty was announced as the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas at Arlington. Like me, I’m sure you read this news with both happiness for Teresa and a sense of loss for our college. She will be missed.

Since she arrived at Purdue in 1999, Teresa has been an integral member of our community, serving in critical leadership positions that have positively impacted students and faculty at both the college and university levels. Teresa will begin her new position August 1, with her last day at Purdue on July 15.

While personnel changes inevitably bring some uncertainty, I want to assure you that every effort is being made to ensure that the work of the college continues smoothly. To that end, I am pleased to let you know that Phil VanFossen has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Associate Dean for Learning while an external search for this position is conducted in the coming academic year. With his experience as EDCI department head and familiarity with the ongoing activities of this position, Phil is in a good position to ensure that critical initiatives move forward. He has my deep appreciation.

These changes are occurring on a very tight timeline. We will be having a farewell gathering for Teresa on Monday, July 11. Details to follow. Please join me in thanking Teresa for her leadership and wishing her the best in her new role.
