Indiana Black Expo

The Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration is the largest ethnic and cultural event of its kind in the nation and attracts more than 350,000 attendees annually. It provides networking, educational, career and cultural opportunities for participants. Through events such as the celebration, the Expo generates resources to support its key initiatives, including education. Since 1984, the Expo has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to 2,000 Indiana students.

Purdue’s Division of Diversity and Inclusion has partnered with the Indiana Black Expo by sponsoring the Youth Leadership Summit. The Youth Leadership Summit is a conference geared towards middle and high school student leaders who want to see and affect change in their community. During the conference students are exposed to professionals who provide information on topics such as college preparation, academic excellence, decision making, and advocacy. YLS youth are engaged with plenary sessions and interactive workshops with knowledge that is transferable across home, school, and community. In addition to networking with youth across the state, Youth Leadership Summit participants also engage in service learning opportunities. Purdue and the Indiana Black Expo are committed to being catalysts in promoting positive, relevant content to our youth for academic and social success.
