Commencement traditions

When Purdue's graduation candidates cross the stage in Elliott Hall of Music on Dec. 15, their commencement ceremonies will involve traditions that are nearly as old as the University itself. Highlights of Purdue regalia include the mace (shown), the official seal, the presidential medallion and banners.

This winter's commencement ceremonies will take place at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 in Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets are required for attendees.

Reader feedback sought on Purdue Today

In the spirit of continuous improvement, the Purdue Today staff is inviting its readers to participate in a survey about the daily e-newsletter. Invitations to take the survey were sent in November, and a reminder will be sent Monday (Dec. 9) to those who have not completed the survey. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes.

Last day for walk-in flu shots in Stewart Center

The Center for Healthy Living will provide flu shots at Stewart Center on a walk-in basis today (Dec. 6). Flu shots will be available to eligible groups at no charge from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 306.

Mortar Board seeking nominations for annual leadership conference

The Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board is seeking high-potential undergraduate students to attend this year's Mortar Board Leadership Conference on Jan. 25. Faculty and staff are asked to nominate current and emerging leaders.

Purdue Today schedule for semester break

Purdue Today will reduce its publishing schedule during semester break. It will be published daily through today (Dec. 6), and then Dec. 9, 12 and 16. In the new year, Purdue Today will publish Jan. 6 and 9 before returning to the daily schedule on Jan. 13.

Purdue alumnus chosen as Forbes Africa Person of the Year

Nigeria's minister for agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina, is the 2013 recipient of the Forbes Africa Person of the Year Award for his work in creating opportunities for his nation's farmers to prosper in agriculture. Adesina earned a master's degree in 1985 and a doctorate in 1988 in Purdue's Department of Agricultural Economics.

Team receives high honors in global digital forensics challenge

A team of four computer and information technology graduate students recently won high honors in the international 2013 Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) Digital Forensics Challenge.
