Purdue IN Home-Solar Decathlon 2011 - Skype Video Chat
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (10 minute chat sessions at the top of each hour)

Michael Gulich, Director of University Sustainability will begin the chats at 11:00 a.m.
Students from Purdue built a solar powered house for the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon. The team's energy efficient house will be displayed on the National Mall in Washington, DC from September 23 - October 2. For more information visit http://www.purdue.edu/inhome/index.html.
Roger B. Gatewood Wing LEED Tours

Come learn about the environmental/sustainable features of the recently completed Gatewood Wing, Purdue's first LEED Gold project. Tours will be given by the Mechanical Engineering Ambassadors and will run approximately 25 - 30 minutes.

Donate and Recyle at the Union

The Purdue Memorial Union is offering a place to donate your new or gently used jeans and sweatshirts which will be donated to local community organizations that benefit low income families. Collection boxes will be located in the stairwell next to Starbucks in PMU. Furthermore, boxes will be available for you to drop-off used batteries, cell phones, eyeglasses and pens through the whole week.

The Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) and the Boiler Green Initiative Club (BGI) have teamed up and designed this interactive recycling bin. This is a must see!

Plastic Bag Monster
On your walk to class or work keep your eyes peeled for the plastic bag monster. The suit is made of 500 plastic bags (the number of plastic bags the average American uses in a year). Take advantage of a great photo op and get some facts about why reusable bags are better for the environment than plastic bags.

"Conservation International in the Brazillian Amazon:efforts towards a green economy"
Time: 7:00 p.m.

Speaker: Dr. Patricia Carvalho Baião , Ph.D., Director of the Amazon Program for Conservation International in Brazil.
Dr Baião will address conservation issues in this region of fantastic biological diversity, including developing common vision among international, Brazilian, and Native community stakeholders. Dr. Baião is a biologist with Ph.D. and master's degrees in Ecology, Evolution and Systematics from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (USA). She also has additional graduate training in Tropical Biology and Conservation with emphasis on the role of non-governmental organizations. She has worked with major international conservation nongovernmental organizations, and has done extensive conservation work in the Brazilian Amazon. She is currently the Director of the Amazon Program for Conservation International-Brazil.
