Re: Leadership Announcement for the Office of Global Partnerships

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to share an important announcement regarding a change in the leadership of Purdue’s Office of Global Partnerships.

Dr. Michael Brzezinski, Dean of International Programs, will now oversee the Office of Global Partnerships. Since joining in 1993, he has led numerous efforts to enhance Purdue’s reputation and impact around the world. During his tenure, Purdue has seen dramatic growth in enrollment of students from abroad on the West Lafayette campus. Over the last five years, Mike spearheaded the Purdue Moves International Experiences initiative that has nearly doubled study abroad participation. He also launched the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) to infuse intercultural learning outcomes and assessments into all aspects of study abroad. In this position, Mike will be responsible for International Student Services, International Scholar Services, Study Abroad, CILMAR, and Purdue’s strategic partnerships with the nations of India and Colombia.

Purdue’s inaugural Chief Corporate and Global Officer, Professor Dan Hirleman, will continue on the faculty of the School of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering. He will also remain actively engaged in advancing our international programs by assuming a new role as the Executive Director for International Advancement in partnership with the Purdue for Life Foundation. During his tenure at the Office of Corporate and Global Partnerships (OCGP), major research partnerships were announced with Rolls-Royce and Eli Lilly and Company, and research expenditures from industry grew about three times as fast as our overall sponsored portfolio. The growth in industry-funded research during Dan’s tenure created a strong foundation for Purdue’s ongoing focus on establishing holistic industry partnerships with multiple touchpoints that include talent, research, philanthropy, online education, place-making, and more.

Please join me in thanking Mike and Dan for ongoing support of Purdue in their new roles.

Sincerely,
Theresa Mayer
