Subject: Hall promotion; Vibbert retirement

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce the promotion of Cherise Hall to vice provost for finance and strategic initiatives, effective immediately.

In her expanded role, Cherise will lead the planning and implementation processes related to strategic, financial and administrative decisions affecting the academic enterprise. She will be responsible for the development of the annual strategic agenda for the Provost’s Office including initiative identification, resource needs, faculty target FTE and faculty recruitment plans. Cherise will continue to provide administrative leadership to the Institutional Data Analytics and Assessment (IDA+A) unit and will serve as one of the co-leads on the Transformative Education 2.0 Next Moves initiative.

Cherise and the IDA+A team played a central role in helping us manage daily decisions as we worked to keep the campus safe during the pandemic. I look forward to the creativity and insight I know she will bring to this expanded set of leadership responsibilities.

Candiss Vibbert, associate provost for special initiatives, will be retiring on June 30.  Candiss has had a remarkable 41-year career at Purdue.  In her current role, Candiss serves as the Purdue liaison to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission. Candiss stewards all new degree proposals, certificates and academic changes for approval; manages the Core Transfer Library; and represents Purdue on a number of statewide committees. She also led Purdue’s successful 10-year accreditation review by the Higher Learning Commission. Her current responsibilities will be taken on by the offices of the Vice Provost for Finance and Strategic Initiatives (Cherise Hall) and Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (Jenna Rickus).

Before joining the Provost’s Office, Candiss served in leadership roles in the President’s Office, Discovery Park and the College of Liberal Arts. She has provided leadership for a number of our major initiatives, and also has been very skillful in handling any number of ad hoc projects that come through the Provost’s Office. Candiss has been a terrific ambassador for Purdue with external agencies, and I will miss her ability to deliver, her positive, proactive mindset, her relationship building skills, and her steadfast commitment to excellence.

Please join me in congratulating both Cherise and Candiss.
