Colleagues,

I’m writing to let you know that Nancy E. Marchand-Martella, the Suzi and Dale Gallagher Dean of the College of Education, has accepted the position of provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, effective July 1, 2022. We are excited for Nancy, and are thankful for her leadership and the positive impact she’s had on the students, faculty and staff during her time at Purdue.

Nancy joined Purdue as dean in July of 2018 and quickly set to work on improving the landscape of teacher education here. Developed under her leadership, the newly launched Innovation Initiative is the most comprehensive restructuring of the teacher education curriculum at Purdue in two decades. Thanks to Nancy’s vision and guidance, graduates of the Purdue College of Education will be better prepared to meet students where they are and to adapt to the ever-changing educational environment.

Nancy began her professional career in 1991 as a faculty member in the Department of Special Education at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She has held faculty appointments at Drake University, University of Montana and Eastern Washington University, where she was graduate program director. Prior to her appointment at Purdue, Nancy was chair of the Department of Educational Psychology and the Hardman Endowed Chair of Education at the University of Oklahoma and is a proud first-generation Purdue graduate.

Further information on the search for a new dean of our College of Education will come in the new year.

I know you will join me congratulating Nancy and in wishing her much success in her new endeavor.
