Statement of Policy

It is Purdue University’s policy to seek, receive, and consider suggestions and advice from Lecturers when forming University policies and procedures relating to teaching and learning and the terms and conditions of Lecturer employment. To this end, the Lecturer Advisory Committee (LAC) serves as a representative committee of Lecturers.

Subject matter for discussion and action by the LAC may originate by any of the following methods:

  1. By the university administration via any of its officers or unit heads or by chairpersons of duly appointed university committees;
  2. By any individual Lecturer via a member of the committee; or
  3. By placing a written and signed statement of the matter on file with the committee.

Reason for This Policy

This policy provides Lecturers with a means of participation through suggestion and advice in the formulation or change of policies and procedures affecting teaching and learning and conditions of employment.

Individuals and Entities Affected

Lecturers (includes senior lecturers), supervisors/department heads of Lecturers, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, and administrative officers.

Exclusions

Definitions

All defined terms are capitalized throughout the document. Refer to the central Policy Glossary for additional defined terms.

Lecturer Advisory Committee (LAC)
A committee consisting of at least one but no more than two Lecturers from each of Purdue West Lafayette’s colleges and at least one but no more than three Lecturers each from Purdue Fort Wayne and Purdue Northwest. The LAC recommends new members, with input from the Lecturers of each college/campus, to the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (West Lafayette campus) and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses), who appoint the members. Members serve a term of three years beginning June 1 and ending May 31, with approximately one-third of the total membership appointed each year.

Consistent with the University’s commitment to equal access and equal opportunity, all applicants will be considered for membership without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, genetic information, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or status as a veteran.

The Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses may staff their own campus-level LACs in addition to the systemwide committee described in this policy. Each campus will define the appointment process and member terms for those committees.
