'This Is Purdue': Celebrating 100 Years with The World's Largest Drum

The latest episode of "This Is Purdue" podcast highlights the legacy of Purdue’s Big Bass Drum, also known as The World's Largest Drum and part of the “All-American” Marching Band for the past 100 years. Pamela Nave, Purdue Bands' percussion instructor and associate professor of bands and orchestras, joins the episode to discuss the AAMB community, Neil Armstrong’s support and the iconic symbol of The World's Largest Drum. Listeners will also hear from Brandon Bledsoe and Hannah Pike, co-captains of the Big Bass Drum Crew, and go behind the scenes at Band Camp. Listen in on Apple, Spotify, or the Purdue website.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Latino Cultural Center: 20-year-old dream now a vibrant reality

Celebrated on Sept. 15-Oct. 15, National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Throughout the month, Purdue Today will share stories of the giant leaps made by Purdue’s outstanding Hispanic and Latino faculty, staff, alumni and students. The first in the series focuses on the beginnings of Purdue’s Latino Cultural Center.

Senior in Engineering, Honors College selected as Udall scholar

Madison Hodges has a heart for public service and the gift of leadership. As a senior in the College of Engineering and Honors College, she is already well established in local environmental and sustainability circles and has received numerous academic honors. It’s no surprise that as a result of her accomplishments, Hodges has been selected as a 2021 Udall scholar.
