Healthy Boiler remains focal point of university’s overall well-being initiative

As the university remains committed to overall health and well-being and a smarter approach to health care for its faculty and staff, the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program sets the foundation. Healthy Boiler continues to provide employees with the opportunity to earn monetary incentives for health savings accounts or health reimbursement arrangements, and funds will be earned a bit differently in 2021.

New mix could double concrete’s carbon uptake

Concrete is not glamorous. It is the workhorse of building materials: versatile, durable, and almost universally ubiquitous, with 30 billion tons of concrete produced every year. Cement, a component of concrete, produces 8% of the world’s carbon footprint. Looking to lower that percentage, Purdue University engineers have discovered a way to make concrete more sustainable.

Purdue recognizes Helen Bass Williams, a civil rights leader and Purdue’s first black faculty member, as part of its Black History Month celebration. Bass Williams took giant leaps to help establish programs that reflected the University’s commitment to change, including attempts to attract more minority students and faculty, develop more diverse course content, and create the Black Studies program.

Purdue is offering weekly tips to help alleviate some of the challenges associated with managing remote workloads and participating in web-based (video) business meetings. This week’s tip recommends organizers consider the best modality for information exchange. To reduce the number of video meetings, consider whether or not an email, chat, or a call could accomplish the same goals.
