Update: COVID-19 vaccine availability, new webpage

Two safe and highly effective COVID-19 vaccines are now available in the United States. All Boilermakers are strongly encouraged to receive the two-dose vaccine as soon as they are eligible. On Monday (Feb. 1), the Indiana State Department of Health expanded eligibility to individuals age 65 and older. More information about the vaccine, including guidelines for eligibility and distribution in Indiana, is available on a new Protect Purdue webpage.

Tremblay in noble gas lab

'Leaky' noble gas behavior could provide missing link in predicting climate change

Early-career scientist Marissa Tremblay has developed a novel method of measuring the temperature history of continental surfaces, a critical innovation considering that most information on past climate comes from ocean data. As overall global temperatures in 2020 reached record highs, data collected through this new method could help scientists working diligently to discover innovative ways of understanding and addressing climate change.

New report explores the state of digital access and rural internet in Indiana

During the pandemic, internet has become more important than ever. It is a lifeline that hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers lack. A new report by Roberto Gallardo, director of the Center for Regional Development, calls attention to the point that hundreds of thousands — perhaps even millions — of people in Indiana lack access to reliable internet at speeds of at least 25 megabits per second.

Remote work tip: Schedule video meetings to allow for prep, breaks

Purdue is offering weekly tips to help alleviate some of the challenges associated with managing remote workloads and participating in web-based (video) business meetings. This week’s tip recommends video meetings be scheduled for 50 or 25 minutes, rather than 60 or 30, to allow some preparation or break time between meetings.
