First full week of enrollment for 2021 benefits underway; enrollment ends Nov. 10

Today is the first Monday of open enrollment for 2021 benefits. Employees can enroll for 2021 benefits using Benefitfocus via the OneCampus portal. Select the "Benefits Open Enrollment for Faculty & Staff" icon and then log in with PUID username and BoilerKey. Or they may enroll using the Benefitplace mobile app, for which the Benefitplace App video has more information.

Testing drugs within a tumor may combat pancreatic cancer drug resistance, ‘time machine’ suggests

Many patients with pancreatic cancer have only about a 10% chance of survival within five years of their diagnosis because they tend to become resistant to chemotherapy, past studies have indicated. A “time machine” that Purdue engineers designed to observe pancreatic cancer behavior over time suggests a new drug testing approach that could help scientists better catch resistance.

Staff take new roles as academic case managers to support students

To support the academic needs of undergraduate students in isolation or quarantine due to COVID-19, Purdue launched the academic case manager (ACM) initiative. ACMs are full-time University employees (such as academic advisors, student success coaches, and student life administrators) who provide students with one-on-one outreach and support.

Augmented reality to play role in manufacturing workforce education

Workforce education in manufacturing has traditionally been very low-tech, but some manufacturers are now turning to augmented and virtual reality to teach their workers new skills. A Purdue team has entered into a $5 million cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to create an augmented and virtual reality experience prototype called Skill-XR.

Purdue student promotes campus safety while studying at home in Brazil

As sophomore Isabella De Salvo Fontoura awaits COVID-19 travel restrictions to end, she continues her Purdue studies from home in Brazil. Last summer, she completed ProjectX Safe Campus, a virtual consulting experience designed to help protect Purdue this fall.
