Classes begin as Protect Purdue Plan, testing and tracing work to contain expected increases in COVID-19

Purdue students begin classes today (Aug. 24) as the University continues to follow the Protect Purdue Plan to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus and protect those who are most vulnerable through a rapid and extensive testing and tracing program.

ITaP outage information

Around 9 a.m., ITaP began receiving reports about issues logging into various systems requiring BoilerKey access, such as the Brightspace learning management system. ITaP also received reports about BoilerCast Live Streaming not working.

Boiler Gold rush participants

Purdue’s West Lafayette campus welcomed incoming Purdue students with its annual Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) and Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) orientation programs. More than 6,200 incoming students participated in the on-campus BGR/BGRi experience, and nearly 700 participated in the fully online orientation experience. New on-campus students moved into their University housing Aug. 14-18, and the BGR/BGRi programming followed the rest of the week.

George M. Scalise

Semiconductor pioneer George Scalise receives honorary doctorate

Purdue has bestowed an honorary doctorate on George M. Scalise, an alumnus who helped shepherd the semiconductor industry from its infancy in the 1950s into today’s $430 billion-plus industry. The presentation was made virtually because Purdue was unable to hold an in-person commencement this summer. Scalise received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue in 1956.

'This is Purdue' podcast highlights Varsity Glee Club, global soundscapes

The latest episode of "This is Purdue" podcast features the Varsity Glee Club, whose members have represented the university on campus, throughout Indiana, across the country and around the world for more than 125 years. The episode also highlights Purdue’s Center for Global Soundscapes, a group led by Professor Bryan Pijanowski that records soundscapes to study the planet’s ever-changing sound.
