Does 'mommy brain' last? Study shows motherhood does not diminish attention

“Mommy brain” is a long-held perception that mothers are more forgetful and less attentive. “In most studies, however, attention and memory tests are given to mothers very early postpartum,” said Valerie Tucker Miller, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Anthropology. Miller is studying the effects of motherhood on attention, memory and other psychological processes.

Saving satellites from a fate of ‘space junk’

No satellite stays the same once launched into space. How much it changes can go unnoticed – until something bad happens. Carolin Frueh, assistant professor in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, is among only a handful of researchers who have persisted in using a complex technique that can diagnose a problem from thousands of miles away based on how the satellite reflects sunlight.

Purdue is persistent in the pursuit of innovation. A new photo gallery shows how Boilermakers embrace and build on new ideas, processes and ways of seeing things that represent a departure from the norm and add value to the world. Photos were taken before Purdue instituted remote learning and social distancing in March 2020 and the requirement for face masks while indoors and in close-quarters settings.

New approach to extend shelf life for N95 mask

A Purdue University team has come up with an approach to extend the shelf life for an N95 mask, which is one of the pieces of personal protective equipment being used by health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
