Mayer to be appointed to President's Council of
Advisors on Science and Technology

Theresa Mayer, executive vice president for research and partnerships at Purdue, will be appointed to the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). The White House announced Tuesday (Jan 28) that President Donald Trump intends to nominate and appoint Mayer and Hussein Tawbi of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to PCAST.

Solar power from ‘the dark side’ unlocked by a new formula

Most of today’s solar panels capture sunlight and convert it to electricity only from the side facing the sky. If the dark underside of a solar panel could also convert sunlight reflected off the ground, even more electricity might be generated. A new formula developed by Purdue engineers reveals exactly how much more electricity double-sided panels could generate compared with conventional single-sided panels.

Amelia Earhart

In the latest Tuesday Tour video, John Sautter of Purdue Alumni Association interviews Amelia Earhart — as portrayed by Purdue Professor Emerita Mary Alice Nebold. Earhart provides an inside look at her experiences in flight and her time at Purdue. Earhart served as a career counselor and advisor to Purdue's Department of Aeronautics from 1935 to 1937.

Purdue is encouraging both high school students who want to get a jump-start and current undergraduates to consider enrolling in summer courses for 2020. Registration opened this week for current Purdue students and will continue to roll out according to assigned time tickets. Open registration begins in March.
