The cultural, artistic and intellectual life at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus is lively. It’s a rare week during a semester that the schedule of highlight events in that life is sparse, but such a week has come. So enjoy the delight and cultural exposure offered this week and look forward to the rest of February’s concerts, speakers, exhibitions, theatre and more -- including seven events from Purdue Convocations. Don’t Miss It!

FEBRUARY 1

A Lunar New Year Celebration, organized by Purdue’s Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center will celebrate the start of the Year of the Rat. Activity booths, Chinese Performing Arts Troupe, Lion Dance, Taekwondo, BACI Indianapolis cultural performance, Okinawa Yuyukai, food, more. 11 a.m-2 p.m. Córdova Recreational Sports Center, Feature Gym. A PEEK AHEAD

FEBRUARY 6

Books and Coffee, a campus favorite for 70 years now, returns with its traditional four late afternoon gatherings in February. Each session offers informal time, refreshments and a 25-minute talk about a book of current interest. 4-5 p.m. STEW, Rooms 302-306. Week 1 will feature Erin Moodie, assistant professor of classics, on Madeline Miller’s “Circe.” Series with links to weekly details

FEBRUARY 8

Guangdong Modern Dance Company, China’s first such company, continues to weave its country’s ancient and modern culture with vigor and grace. 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Tickets $22-$30. Pre-show discussion with dance company members at 7 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 310. Event

FEBRUARY 9

In “Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium Adventure,” a family event, the creators of a “dinosaur zoo” show lead an adventure to the ocean depths. Actors, technology, puppets, science and imagination help explore what might live there. 3 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Tickets $12-$17. Pre-show activities with Columbian Park Zoo staff at 2 p.m. in Stewart Center west lobby. Event
